Polarized vs. Pyramidal: Choosing Your Training Intensity

The debate over the best way to structure training intensity often centers on two dominant scientific models: Polarized and Pyramidal. Observational work such as Seiler and Kjerland (2006) helped establish that many elite endurance athletes train with a polarized pattern—most sessions clearly easy, a meaningful dose clearly hard, and relatively little time in the moderate “grey zone.” The question is not simply "which is better," but rather, "which is better for a specific athlete, during a specific training phase, to achieve a specific physiological goal?"
